This is a vignette of feeling insignificant and not wealthy, and somehow embracing the sorrow of it all in an angsty sort of way. There might be some envy tainting your vision. You might be thinking you might win the lottery, but what then will you do with all that money? Your envy will become someone else's envy, and you might have ringing ears, you might get that sense, that itch on the back of your head, signifying someone is looking at you with evil intentions.
The lyric, "there's a million dollar house up for sale," was a line from a conversation I had with my mother. She was letting me know that there was a house being built in our little hometown and that it was going to be sold for upwards of a million dollars.
Do you notice how I sing out of tune the line: "Think I'll buy it up with my good charm"? Is that irony? Or is that just my vocal ineptitude?
